“Bohol’s Choice Cuts”
This is only an attempt to tread through the footprints of several Boholanos who have toiled in order to dig deeper into the meaning of life and, although unaware or unconcerned about their individual accomplishments, have contributed to the Boholano legacy as a people with dignity and pride.
These biographical sketches are culled from more than a million Boholanos living in Bohol, and approximately a million more scattered all over the Philippine provinces and Cities and all over the globe. They are the “Choice Cuts,” the Achievers.
The idea of writing about Boholano Achievers was hatched at the start of the Third Millennium. The original plan was for the feature articles to be published in the local newspapers, and after the first decade (2010), to cull the best features into a book. Thus, the articles were published in the Bohol Chronicle (Bohol’s Choice Cuts), and Sunday Post, Bohol Times, and Bohol Standard (The Boholano Today).
In 2011 I met a prominent Bank Manager, who advised me to, instead, open my own Website for the articles. Which I did. But the ultimate plan to publish a book about Boholano Achievers is still a passion. I have talked about this possibility with a top government official, who is willing to help me realize this dream. Anybody who likes to involve himself in the project is welcome.
Most of my subjects were born in Bohol and are still living in the Province, or have resided elsewhere; some of them are based in other places in the country, or abroad. There are those born of Boholano parent, but are based outside ofBohol. A few are non-Boholano by blood but have lived in Bohol for at least ten years.
They come from all walks of life, and from all professions, with one thing in common: they are ACHIEVERS.
Most of them are unsung heroes starting in and heroines who avoid the limelight, with nary a desire to blow their own horns, many of them confident in their low-key existence and reluctant to be featured in the weekly write-up – for which reason the author had to do a lot of convincing before they granted an interview.
There are a lot of accomplished Boholano, starting off with former President Carlos P. Garcia, but our subjects include only those who live from the year 2000 up to the present. Many of them have been recommended for inclusion by those who appreciate their worth, especially because they love to serve.
Love of service is the mark of a true Boholano.
